Job Description
The Isotope Cosmochemistry and Geochronology Laboratory in the School of Earth and Space Exploration (SESE) at Arizona State University invites applications for a postdoctoral research scholar in Isotope Cosmochemistry. Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the Isotope Cosmochemistry and Geochronology Laboratory (ICGL) directed by Professor Meenakshi Wadhwa in the School of Earth and Space Exploration at Arizona State University. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in research projects in the area of isotope cosmochemistry through investigations of meteoritic and planetary materials and their components. Ongoing research projects in the ICGL include understanding the chronology of early solar system events via application of high-resolution extinct chronometers (particularly 26Al-26Mg and 53Mn-53Cr), tracing geochemical reservoirs and dynamics in the protoplanetary disk via characterization of non-mass dependent isotopic anomalies (such as 50Ti and 54Cr), and understanding nebular and asteroidal processing through the characterization of mass dependent isotope fractionation of the stable isotopes of a variety of elements. Analytical facilities in the ICGL include a state-of-the-art multicollector ICPMS, associated clean chemistry laboratory for low-blank sample preparation and an Excimer laser ablation system for in situ isotopic analyses. Access is also available to other analytical facilities at ASU including Cameca IMS-6f and NanoSIMS 50L ion microprobes, quadrupole ICPMS, electron microprobe and SEM. The initial appointment is for one year with subsequent annual renewal for an additional year contingent upon satisfactory performance, the needs of the university, and availability of resources. The estimated start date is July 2024. This position comes with a competitive salary, funding for travel to relevant conferences and health benefits coverage. Minimum Qualifications: A Ph.D. in the physical sciences and experience with mass spectrometry by the appointment start date. Desired Qualifications: Prior experience and expertise in area of isotope cosmochemistry. Applicant should be within 4 years of receiving PhD.
