Abstract:"Chemical investigation of a female balloon-like organ of the European chafer, Rhizotrogus majalis (Razoumowsky), with GC-EAD has resulted in the identification of female-specific compounds, (R)-3- hydroxybutan-2-one, (2R,3R)-2,3-butanediol, and meso-2,3-butanediol that are specifically EAD-active with male antennae. No behavioral role for any of the EAD active compounds could be discerned with this species"
