Abstract:"In this paper I will describe some of the challenges faced in the management of lung cancer. I will describe the rationale for studying breath testing for volatile organic compounds as a diagnostic test for lung cancer, and outline the evidence that suggests the potential of this line of investigation. I will conclude by speculating about the progress that needs to occur for breath testing to become clinically useful, capable of meeting some of the challenges of this major public health problem"
